As an aside, that little device on the poor man’s head is called a Rat Cage, just one of the many many many ghastly devices invented throughout history with the express purpose testing the human body to destruction (or bits of the human body, depending). Honestly, I’ve always been simultaneously amazed and repulsed by the scope of the torture technology.
There are an embarrassingly huge number of truly terrible devices that have been used in the name of… well… whatever offers itself as an excuse, really; not that people have really needed any excuses.
